NRA Headquarters Range: The NRA Range at NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia is one of the most historically significant shooting ranges in the country with a fully automated 15-lane 50-yard indoor facility open to both NRA members and the general public with no membership required. Established in 1996, the range handles calibers up to .500 S&W and .460 Weatherby Magnum, hosts USPSA matches and Junior Events, and is home to Women On Target clinics, adaptive shooting programs, and NRA Instructor and RSO certification courses. Shooters under 18 shoot free when sharing a lane with an adult. The free NRA National Firearms Museum is directly upstairs and open daily. No firearm rentals — bring your own or visit with someone who has one.

Do I need to be an NRA member to use the range?

No. The NRA Range is open to the general public for all shooting activities. You do not need to be an NRA member to shoot. However NRA members receive additional discounts on annual range memberships over standard membership savings.

Do you rent firearms?

No. The NRA Range does not rent, loan, or sell firearms. You must bring your own firearm or come with someone who has their own. Ammunition and shooting supplies are available for purchase on site.

How does range access work for first-time visitors?

All first-time shooters must complete a short safety test and briefing before using the range. Upon completion they receive a Range Card that grants access and is valid indefinitely for future visits. You can fill out the waiver online before your visit to save time.

Can children shoot for free?

Yes. Shooters under the age of 18 sharing a lane with an adult shoot for free, subject to restrictions. Contact the range at 703-267-1402 for details.

Do you take lane reservations?

No. All lanes are first come first served with no reservations. Range time is assigned in one-hour increments. Platinum Annual Range Members receive two-hour lane increments.

What membership options are available?

Annual range memberships are available in multiple tiers including a Platinum tier that grants two-hour lane increments. Family memberships cover spouses and children at the same address and each family member receives their own range card. NRA members receive additional discounts. Memberships are valid for 13 months. Are there military or law enforcement discounts?

Yes. Military and law enforcement discounts are available on Annual Range Memberships. Additional discounts apply on Mondays and Fridays. Contact the range for current discount details.

What calibers are allowed on the range?

The NRA Range handles all pistol and rifle calibers up to .500 S&W and .460 Weatherby Magnum. Shotguns are permitted with slugs only. No birdshot or target loads.

What training and classes are offered?

The NRA Range offers NRA Basic Firearm Training, concealed carry classes, advanced marksmanship, Women On Target clinics, Junior Events and youth shooting programs, adaptive shooting programs for people with disabilities, and NRA Instructor, Range Safety Officer, and Shooting Sports Coach certification courses. All classes are taught by NRA Certified Firearms Instructors.

Do you host competitions?

Yes. The NRA Range hosts competitive shooting leagues and matches including USPSA events in pistol and rifle disciplines. Check the event calendar at nrahqrange.nra.org for upcoming matches.

Can the range be rented for private groups or events?

Yes. The range and on-site classroom are available for group rental during non-public hours. The classroom accommodates up to 50 guests with full AV services. Contact therange@nrahq.org or 703-267-1402 to inquire.

Is the NRA National Firearms Museum included?

Yes. The NRA National Firearms Museum is located directly upstairs from the range, is open 9am to 4pm daily, and admission is completely free to everyone - no shooting required.

Where is the range entrance located?

From the NRA Headquarters parking area follow signs to the left past the NRA Cafe and continue into the parking garage at the rear of the building. Walk down the ramp to The NRA Range main entrance which leads to the front desk.

Are tourists and out-of-state visitors welcome?

Yes. Tourists and visitors from all states are welcome. Just note that the range does not rent firearms so you must bring your own or visit with someone who has one.

Do you have youth programs?

Yes. The NRA Range hosts Junior Events and youth-focused shooting programs on a regular basis. Junior range memberships are also available. Shooters under 18 shoot free when sharing a lane with a paying adult. Check the event calendar for upcoming junior events.
