Wooster Mountain Shooting Range is one of Connecticut's finest and most affordable public outdoor shooting facilities, operated by the Danbury Shooting Sports Association (D.S.S.A.) on Sugar Hollow Road (Route 7) in Danbury. The 70-yard outdoor range is open to the public during summer season (mid-April through late November) with no reservations required. Public rifle/pistol sessions run Wednesday 1-5pm, Saturday Noon-4pm, and Sunday Noon-4pm. Trap and 5-Stand shooting runs every Tuesday from 10am to sunset, year-round — details at pahquioque.com. Range fee is just $20 per person ($5 for children under 14) with target stand rental at $10; a 5-Day Pass is $80 (six sessions for the price of five). Cash only. There are no caliber restrictions on public rifle/pistol days, and suppressors are permitted. No automatic or select-fire firearms or devices that mimic auto are allowed. Two free paper targets are provided at sign-in; Shoot-N-See and additional targets are available for purchase. The range is handicap accessible. Membership is $175 annually — members pay no additional fees on public days, target frames are included, and members may buy trap rounds individually rather than purchasing a season pass. The D.S.S.A. also hosts training opportunities for civilian shooters and law enforcement agencies for official qualifications under Director supervision. All RSOs are certified volunteer staff.
