The Modern Sportsman's Coon Rapids location is a state-of-the-art public firearm range, gun shop, and training center serving the north Twin Cities metro. Opened as the second location of the highly rated Burnsville-based operation, the Coon Rapids facility holds a 4.6-star rating on Google and combines a modern retail showroom stocked with handguns, rifles, shotguns, NFA items, and ammunition with two shooting bays totaling 27 lanes. The public range features fifteen 25-yard lanes rated for both pistol and rifle calibers. Every lane is equipped with Range Systems CR2 target carriers, easy-to-use electronic touchscreens, and individual light dimmers so each shooter can set their own preference. A first-class ventilation system by Carey's cycles air and lead dust downrange, keeping the air at the firing line clean and fresh. Eye and ear protection are provided free with every visit. Members get access to an exclusive twelve-lane pistol bay featuring Action Target Genesis carriers with Strike Watch equipment monitoring, integrated target cameras, dynamic 360-degree turning targets, pre-programmed drills, fully air-conditioned comfort, and 180-degree padded walls for a quieter shooting experience. Beyond the range, The Modern Sportsman offers in-person and online Minnesota Permit to Carry training, a shooting league, gunsmithing, FFL transfers, buy/sell/trade services, and a dedicated law enforcement program. Lane rental is $20 for a single lane plus $10 per additional shooter (up to three per lane), with unlimited shooting time during non-peak hours and no upcharge for additional firearms.

A single lane is $20 plus $10 for each additional person on the same lane, with a maximum of three shooters per lane. There is no upcharge for bringing additional firearms, and eye and ear protection are free.
You get unlimited time during non-peak hours. A one-hour limit applies only when there is a waiting list, which generally happens on Saturdays and Sundays.
Children must be at least 12 years old to shoot and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who signs a waiver and stays present at all times. Handgun shooters under 21 and long gun shooters under 18 must also be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Pistol and rifle calibers are allowed on the public range, but no .50 BMG or .338. Shotguns are slug-only. Aluminum-cased, steel-core, steel-jacketed, steel-cased, tracer, armor-piercing, incendiary rounds, and buckshot are prohibited, and black powder rifles may not be discharged indoors.
Eye and hearing protection are mandatory on the range, but the range provides them free with your session. You can also purchase your own in the retail shop.
Yes, firearm rentals are available. To rent, you must have a valid permit to purchase or carry, bring your own firearm, or be accompanied by another individual - this applies to members as well.
