Founded in 1964, Oakdale Gun Club is a member-owned and operated non-profit corporation in Lake Elmo dedicated to promoting the shooting sports, improving public safety, and providing a safe, supervised, well-maintained place to shoot. With a capped membership base of 1,500 and the motto 'Education. Competition. Family Fun.', it is one of the east metro's most established outdoor shooting facilities. The club's outdoor complex includes 25-yard, 50-yard, and 100-yard ranges, a 200-meter range, a trap range, and two members-only ranges (the Short Range and Competition Range). Members shoot 365 days a year; the public is welcome seasonally - weekends from mid-July through mid-October (8am-4pm), then daily from mid-October through early November, closing with a final public weekend in mid-November. The public range fee is a flat $26 for the day, trap rounds are $14 for the public, and active military, law enforcement, and firefighters shoot free on the handgun and rifle ranges with ID during public hours. Kids under 18 shoot free with a paying adult all of August, and veterans shoot free on Veterans Day. Competition is a way of life here: the club hosts NRA Bullseye, 3-Position Rifle, Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) events, Glock matches, IHMSA metallic silhouette, Schuetzen rifle, practical pistol, USA/Olympic shooting, cast bullet benchrest, and NRL22 rifle matches. Training offerings include Permit to Carry classes, Minnesota DNR Youth Firearm Safety certification, and Novice Trap instruction, with public Open Trap on Thursday evenings and Novice Trap on Wednesdays through the summer. Membership is $225 per year plus a one-time $150 initiation fee (one per household). Members must be 18 or older, legally able to possess firearms, and perform 18 service hours per year - the first year as a Range Safety Officer, which keeps the ranges supervised and safety standards high.
